SoCal Latest - Playoff Time!

The playoffs are set for Southern California's Varsity Red and Varsity White divisions.

In Varsity Red, St. John Bosco and Mira Costa were already settled for the playoffs, in that order, out of LA.

In the San Diego Conference, Cathedral defeated Del Norte 31-20 and Torrey Pines beat Patrick Henry 57-17. But the big result was St. Augustine over La Costa Canyon 24-19. This was a huge victory for St. Augustine, as it thrust the Saints into 1st in the Varsity Red San Diego Conference.

Torrey Pines had been hoping for a St. Augustine loss in order to make the playoffs, but that didn't happen, and Pines is on the outside looking in. LCC edges out Torrey Pines thanks to better bonus points.

So the playoff matchups are: La Costa Canyon v St. John Bosco, and St. Augustine v Mira Costa.

In Varsity White, it's a bigger playoff deal with more teams (Varsity White teams have a minimum of 75% of players from a single school; Varsity Red is 100%).

Los Alamitos looks to defend their title and did well with a 32-21 of a very good Westview team. San Marcos beat the Mustangs 34-28, and La Jolla shut out Servite 33-0. Carlsbad defeated Santiago to move on, also.

San Marcos will take on La Jolla in the semis while Los Alamitos will play Carlsbad.

"We played a our game, even though it was a bit sloppy on the ball handling," said Los Alamitos coach Dan Chase. "We played a quick, aggressive, tactical, and technical game. Our players have be coached that-mistakes happen, make as few a possible and recover from them fast, capitalize on the mistakes of other players, and whatever you do, don't stop. We saw that in this game we made mistakes but recovered from them. When Westview made a mistake, we took advantage of it."

Still a very young team, Los Al is one of the favorites.
