SD Mustangs Beat Snow Canyon

The San Diego Mustangs defeated Snow Canyon in a meeting between one of the top teams in Southern California, and one of the top teams in Snow Canyon.

The game was played at the Army-Navy Academy Sports Complex in Carlsbad, Calif. The teams were evenly-matched early on as they probed each other with kicks.

The kicking contest ended in the Mustangs' favor as they were able to pin down Snow Canyon, and pressure inside their 22. However, the Mustangs lost captain, No. 8, and goalkicker Jackson Baere to injury, which certainly hurt their momentum.

Finally, however, San Diego got a penalty in front of the posts, and flanker Tanner Wyandt was asked to take the shot. He was successful and the Mustangs led 3-0.

The Mustangs added to the lead when outside center Adam Eastwood broke through after a scrum deep inside his team's half. Eastwood rambled 50 meters before being tackled, but the support was there and after a few phases prop Michael Perone put it over. With the conversion the Mustangs led 10-0.

Snow Canyon replied quickly and opted for a kick at the posts on a penalty - the kick was good and it was 10-3.

The Mustangs did well to handle Snow Canyon despite being short-handed due to a yellow card, and eventually got a try after they charged a clearance kick. The kick was deflected to Caleb Wilson, who countered and fed Perone for the prop's second try and a 15-3 lead.

Snow Canyon used the pick-and-go to move into the Mustangs 22, but San Diego stopped them and Eastwood beat his man and raced 80 meters for the center's second try and a 20-3 halftime lead.

San Diego scored right after the second half kickoff - wing Ian Slack doing the donors - and Wyandt hit the conversion for a 27-3 lead.

Wyandt took another shot at goal but his kick was short. Snow Canyon knocked the ball forward, and from the ensuing scrum, flyhalf James Down zipped over. Snow Canyon got a try after that, their first, and San Diego added one to finish the game 37-10.

Snow Canyon won the B-side game by a lot.
