Regis Jesuit and East HS both won their semifinal games in Rugby Colorado’s HS playoffs.

Regis Jesuit defeated Colorado Springs 38-12 in the rematch of a game that was 13-12 last time they met. And East defeated PAC 28-15.

“We just played our game,” said Regis Jesuit Coach Brian Normile. “Our flyhalf kept us in our pattern both in defense and attack, and we knew when we played Colorado Springs last time that there was more to our game.”

That flyhalf would be Ryan Maxfield, who helped the offense explode. No. 8 Drew Schlegel was the chief beneficiary of that offensive surge, as he scored three tries.

Meanwhile East found PAC to be a tougher opponent than the last time they faced off.

“PAC played well,” said East Coach Bill Baer. “They came out with effective kicking from their flyhallf and a solid defense.”

In fact, PAC led 12-7 at halftime.

“In the first half we did not handle the ball well and had many knock-ons,” said Baer.

In the second half, East picked up their game. No 8 Charles Zablocki challenge PAC with his strong running and flyhalf  Adam Leonard was another threat with the ball in hand. Outside center Jack Martin-Linsley was another offensive threat and his goalkicking was accurate, too, as he converted all four East tries in the comeback.

“Our fitness was helpful in the second half,” said Baer.

So that sets up Regis Jesuit v East next week.

Meanwhile, in the DII semis, Fort Collins beat Highlands Ranch 38-24, and the Legend HS Titans beat Grand Junction 29-19. The final will be for the right to move up to DI next season.
