Georgetown Prep prop Reily Barlett gets some attention from the Good Counsel defense.

Gonzaga and Georgetown Prep keep winning the MAVRC conference in the DC area.

On April 6 Gonzaga handled St. John's 87-0. Last Friday, Salesianum defeated Dematha 29-18.

Dematha got a big day from two freshmen, Jackson Holtzman, who notched a try in the losing effort, and Jamie Math wasa, whose experience playing in Zimbabwe has proven to be a great benefit to DeMatha. Senior Jack Garner also punched in a try for the Stags. But the Sallies were strong in attack breaking the Dematha line for long gains.  In addition, Dematha found themselves on the wrong side of the whistle too often, losing momentum and yielding points to the Sallies.

Also on April 8l Georgetown Prep shut out Good Counsel 36-0.

Prep was paced by three first-half tries from flyhalf James Lyons and got a very physical defensive effort and strong carries from No. 8 Sean Clark. Good Counsel coach James Aitken complimented his midfield with a solid defensive effort, especially in the second half and noted the work rate around the park from prop Ike Sherman and hooker Aaron Jarvie.

Salesianum will aim to keep the winning momentum when they host Good Counsel next week.  Gonzaga has a few days to enjoy the victory over Xavier and can look ahead to the Jesuit Classic at the end of the week.  Dematha and St. John's will both be seeking a first league win when they meet on Monday.  Prep has a busy end of the week in front of them, with St. John's on Friday followed by a rescheduled match with Salesianum on Sunday.

Meanwhile, in the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association, conference play started with Loyola over Mount Saint Joseph 28-0, and Archbishop Spalding 22-10 over Calvert Hall.

Next week, Calvert Hall faces Loyola Blakefield, while Spalding takes on Mt. St. Joe.

James Lyons scored three for Georgetown Prep.
