Layton Christian Wins Utah Boys Fall 7s
Layton Christian won both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 Utah Youth Rugby Boys HS fall 7s.
Under coach Tongia Vaitki Layton Christian has emerged as a real 7s power. Layton's 2nd side was dominant in the Tier II throughout the fall.
In Tier 1 it wasn't so easy. LCA dropped a game to East HS and was chasing a very good Olympus side much of the season.
But a win over Olympus on October 1 signaled that they were peaking at the right time, and Layton then beat Olympus again 37-12 in the final this past Saturday.
LCA were led by Ilai Tagidugu and Justin Sau, who set up the scenarios for their teammates to exploit. Penisoni Talanoa was a force in the midfield, while Ikani Taumoefulau was an excellent finisher with four tries on finals day.
Working the unglamorous side of the game, Brian Pangai was huge on defense and Talin Dunyon won restarts and put opponents under pressure at the breakdown and around the field.
