KC Jr. Blues Win Missouri Again

Behind an MVP performance from flanker Mason Tasset, the Kansas City Jr. Blues won the team’s 4th-straight Missouri State Championship this weekend in Jefferson City, Mo.

The weekend was a tough one for all concerned as eight teams assembled in the state capital to play quarterfinals and semifinals on Saturday, and final placements games on Sunday.

The Jr. Blues beat the St. Louis Mustangs 38-10 in the quarters, and then took care of Park Hill 24-0.

St. Louis University High was once again the Blues’ opponent in the final. SLUH beat Jefferson City 28-12 in the quarters and then beat Eureka 22-10 in the semis.

That set up the final, where the Jr. Blues scored a try and a penalty to lead 10-0 at halftime. SLUH scored to make it a close one at 10-7, but a late Jr. Blues sealed it 17-7. Flyhalf Jake Bergner was outstanding for KC, while flanker Mason Tasset was a massive presence. Chris Campbell was a top performer for SLUH.

“We are starting to peak at the right time,” said KC Jr. Blues Coach Eddie Cummings. “If we can stop getting into penalty trouble, we would be even more dangerous. SLUH is a really good team, well-coached, and tough.”

Park Hill defeated Eureka 3rd.
