Greenwich Wins Two Tournaments in One Weekend

Greenwich High School won the Ariel Re Bermuda 7s boys HS bracket this weekend, defeating West Chester in overtime in the final.

Greenwich battled out a tough first game against West Chester Wolf Pack, winning 15-14. That was a a good, challenging opener, and after that Greenwich started to click, beating the Bermuda All-Stars Red and Silver teams, and Stanstead College from Canada, to win the pool.

Greenwich brought with them Fairfield Prep player Connor Bercik, and he combined nicely with Soh Nakayama to set up HS All American Luke Bienstock and the always dangerous Bryce Stanback for tries. Walker Manning, Parker Kelly, and Kevin Kumar played strong defense during the tournament.

On Day Two of the tournament, Greenwich faced Bermuda Red once again and won again to move on to the final against West Chester.

Ran Sando scored and Fermin Moraiz nailed the conversion from the touchline to open up a 7-0 lead in the championship game, but West Chester scored just before halftime to tie the game 7-7. That’s how the game ended, too, as neither was able to break through in the second half.

So on to sudden death overtime, and in OT Greenwich junior Kevin Wright ran in from 20 meters out to clinch the game.
