Saint Ignatius, the #1-ranked will play #6 Penn HS in the final of the Midwest Championships after both won two shortened games Saturday in Elkhart, Ind.

St. Ignatius defeated Bishop Dwenger 39-10 in the quarterfinals, and Notre Dame de La Salette 24-14 in the semi.

Penn HS slammed Pulaski 56-0 in the quarters, and then St. Edward with a fairly impressive 34-10 scoreline. Penn actually went 5-0 on the day as their JV team will face St. Edward in the JV final, and their development team also won.

For the varsity team, hooker Gabe Yeoman, wing Paul Moala, flanker Connor Newman, and lock Drew Lord all played well, working hard and making the attack flow for Penn.

"We're thrilled to have another shot at St. Ignatius while healthy," said Penn Head Coach Bart Bottorff. "We respect them as much as any team we play. They are well coached and have top athletes."

For Ignatius, Head Coach Dan Arbeznik as had to deal with a pile of injuries. Yet another injury at flyhalf will mean Sunday they start their sixth player in the #10 jersey.

Sophomore Tommy Gill played well at flanker and props Seamus McCarthy and Jivan Meguerditchian played well defensively. Alex Chura looked good in the backs while Declan Boldy kicked well and Chris Harrington scored two tries. Flanker Nick Zolikoff scored four tries on Saturday.

In the HS Club bracket, Royal Irish won comfortably despite being quite shorthanded. Head Coach Scott Peterson said his team is just battling injuries, but when they have their top 15 on the field, they are as good as anyone.

Certainly they are very good in the Midwest, with now Carroll the only team in the way of another Royal Irish Midwest title.
