Phoenix Alpharetta Rugby and Georgia Youth Rugby Association has announced that Erik Saxon has been elected President effective immediately.

In his new role, Saxon will have full responsibility for all Phoenix Rugby and Georgia Youth Rugby Association activities going forward. Current President, Niall Fenton, will be retiring but will continue to serve and assist on the board of both entities.

Erik joins the Phoenix and GYRA team after a stellar career leading Charlotte Tigers and Charlotte Junior Rugby Association. During his term Charlotte Tigers became a high school national championship finalist while CJRA developed into one of the leading underage rugby programs in the country. In addition, Erik’s leadership of the Carolina Ruggerfest tournament saw the event grow into the largest such rugby event in the country.

The Saxon family has relocated to the Atlanta area and that is why he is now joining Phoenix and GYRA.

“Phoenix Alpharetta has always been a club I’ve admired and respected," said Saxon. "Its current leadership and support is stellar. I feel lucky to have been given this new role and look forward to seeing what the future brings."

“Phoenix Rugby is honored that Erik has agreed to join the club," added Fenton. "I’m confident that he will facilitate the same growth in Atlanta that has been evident under him in Charlotte. This is a great day for Phoenix Rugby and I look forward to working with Erik throughout the transition.”
