Rocky Mountain started off their Idaho league season with a nice victory over Mountain View, and while Kyle van Tonder was not the player of the game, maybe that’s because he’s a victim of being the player he is.

Van Tonder played with the Eagle Impact Rugby Academy team in Las Vegas, and is expected to continue to tour with that outfit, while also a crucial member of the Rocky Mountain team.

“Kyle has a really good rugby IQ,” said Eagle Impact Rugby Academy Director Salty Thompson. “He’s a talent. He has an eye for a gap and has really good overall skills.”

“Kyle brings a vast skill set to the team,” said Rocky Mountain backs coach Matt Forrester. “He is not only a naturally gifted athlete, his years of experience on the pitch are unmatched, even though he is a sophomore. His talent at flyhalf is allowing us to implement a very dynamic backline attack that has potential to be something special as we get deeper into the season.”

In addition to that, van Tonder, has led by example.

“He has a great work ethic,” said Forrester, “often times joining me for workouts at 5am before school.”

Kyle van Tonder is our Eagle Impact Rugby Academy Player of the Week.
