DII Playoff Latest - National Semis Set

The Men's DII Collegiate semifinalists are set after Sunday's games.

Minnesota-Duluth capped off a snow-covered weekend with an impressive 46-3 defeat of #9 Lindenwood-Belleville. The #1-ranked Fighting Penguins held their two playoff opponents to just six points, and no tries, and looked every inch a defending national champion.

Duluth will take on Salisbury, as the #6 Sharks beat #10 UNC-Wilmington.

In the other semi, Wisconsin-Whitewater will take on Towson.

Whitewater, ranked #2 by Goff Rugby Report, held off Rhode Island 31-21. That was the closest any opponent has been able to get to the Warhawks this season. Towson, meanwhile ran out to a big lead on #4 Rowan, and then got a late scare. Vince Francescangeli, John Schuberth, and Jason Laraia all scored tries while Eric Sweeney converted all three and added two penalties for a 27-5 Towson lead. But then Rowan scored four tries to take a 29-27 lead. But Sweeney scored on a quick-tap to put his team back on top, and Will Ngonga's try made it 37-29. Then a Nick DiPietro try made it 44-29.

But Rowan scored two late tries to make it 44-41 and put themselves in position to win it late. But Towson held on.
