Davis Over Chico - More on Pac West

UC Davis defeated Chico State 29-12 Saturday to move to 2-0 in the Pacific Western DIAA Conference.

Chico State drops to 2-1 in this matchup of two of the top teams in the conference.

Davis was in good shape through most of the game, led by a player-of-the-game performance by Harrison Morrow. Chico State Head Coach Lucas Bradbury said it was difficult to find positives in his team's performance in the first 60 minutes.

"We didn't play particularly well and we turned over far too much ball," said Bradbury. "And you can't give a team like Davis that much turnover ball."

Chico did right the ship somewhat in the latter minutes, and scored two tries. Bradbury praised his team's backline play and improvement in the last quarter ofthe match, but added that Davis was certainly the better side.

Maia Silva, Jiffy Vasilieff, Danny Reid, and Ryan Patrick Morgan all touched down for Davis Saturday.

Meanwhile, Stanford defeated San Jose State 36-6 to improve to 2-0-1. So the top of the Pacific Western has Stanford at 2-0-1 and 13 standings points, Chico State 2-1 with 10, and UC Davis 2-0 with 10.

Right behind them is Nevada, which is 2-0 after beating San Francisco State 44-20. Garren Albright scored two tries in that game, while Austin Solheim, Peter Hoffman, Mario Diaz, Ryan Adair, and Jeremy Ruin added one each. The Wolf Pack has started well, but against two teams that started 0-2. Their tougher opponents are still to come.

And in a dramatic and back-and-forth game, UC Santa Cruz edged Fresno State 36-31. Fresno State is winless, but has to be thinking they aren't far off from victory as their games have been a tie and a five-point loss, leaving them with five standings points out of a possible 10.
