Big Result for Greenwich

Greenwich players celebrate a try earlier this season.

Greenwich logged a big result this past weekend, defeating Xavier HS in emphatic fashion.

Coming off close losses to Rye (12-7) and a 40-24 loss to BC High, Greenwich were not necessarily favored against Xavier.

But they exploded for 45 points and a 45-15 victory.

Greenwich in fact led 45-5 until the final portion of the game.

"Greenwich played very well and kept Xavier under pressure," said Greenwich Coach Michael Laczkowski. "We spread the field and attacked with pace and control."

Senior captains Ignacio Piccone and Gaston Gomez led the team nicely and No. 8 Eric Fisher had a huge game and served as a key leader as well.

Laczkowski said this was a full team effort and it certainly is an indication that Greenwich is on the up.

The Tri-State region has been a bit of a surprise this year. Xavier lost to Pelham but beat Rye earlier in the season. Rye beat Greenwich and also Georgetown Prep, and now look to a key game with Pelham May 3 as the MetNY playoffs loom. Greenwich, for their part, have already beaten rivals DStaples and now have Trumbull midweek followed by Aspetuck on the weekend. Their May will be packed with six games before the Connecticut playoffs start.
