2015 Atlantis Camp at Surfside Sevens

Atlantis Rugby Camp at Surfside Sevens

Atlantis US Sevens Rugby™ in cooperation with Surfside Sevens, held an open high school camp attended by more than 80 participants, both boys and girls, in Stone Harbor on the New Jersey shore July 17.

Most of the players participating would play for various teams at the Surfside Sevens on July 18-19.  The camp's goal was to instruct players in various aspects of the sevens game for their individual improvement as well as allow coaches a chance to observe players with potential for advancement up the rugby ladder.

Coaches for the camp were: Biddy Boyle, Jack Foley, Emil Signes, Omar Rivera, Sean Robinson, George Betzler, and Joe Dabulas. Also working at the camp were Stacy Foley, Donna Boyle, Keith McLean, Stephen Siano, and the Surfside staff.

Participants were timed in a 40-yard dash, and were then broken into small groups for stations comprising attack in the open field, defense in the open field, securing and disrupting the ball at the tackle, scrums, lineouts, and kickoffs. Brandon Boone had the fastest time in the 40-yard run.

High School Elites Shine at Surfside

Following the Surfside Sevens tournament (high school boys' elite champion: Maryland Exiles Black, high school boys' champion: West Chester, and high school girls' champion: Doylestown), the coaches selected a pair of All-Star teams to compete in a final match called Surfside High School Boys Sevens Showcase Match. Given the amount of rugby that was played over the weekend and that there was no chance to practice at all, the quality of the game was remarkably high. The format was two 10-minute halves, two squads of 14 with rolling subs.  The final score was All Star Teal 26 over All Star Black 10.
