Lightning suspended player midway through Saturday/s Rocky Mountain Challenge all-star tournament in Colorado.

Two rounds of boys Varsity games were played, with four of the six games being very close.

No team ends the day 2-0, but a couple are 1-0. Utah defeated Colorado sound, 38-7, to win their first game. Heart of America won 29-15 over Wisconsin. Also 1-0 is Minnesota, which beat Texas 26-19.

Colorado opened their account early in the day with a 31-24 defeat of Nebraska before falling to Utah. Wisconsin also won their opener, 22-0 over New Mexico before dropping to 1-1 with the loss to HOA.

Texas rebounded from their opening loss to Minnesota to beat Oklahoma 34-12.

The third round of games, however, were not played due to the dangerous weather.

In the Boys JV bracket, Colorado beat Heart of America, Wisconsin edged Colorado Springs 19-17, and Utah beat Texas in a close one 23-15. The remaining matches for the day, including the games involving Minnesota’s JV team, were called off.

Rocky Mountain Challenge Boys Varsity Standings:

Pool A
Team W-L Pf-Pa
Heart of America 1-0 29-15
Wisconsin 1-1 37-29
New Mexico 0-1 0-22

Pool B
Team W-L Pf-Pa
Minnesota 1-0 26-19
Texas 1-1 53-38
Oklahoma 0-1 12-34

Pool C
Team W-L Pf-Pa
Utah 1-0 38-7
Colorado 1-1 38-62
Nebraska 0-1 24-31

With the top teams from each pool making the semis, plus the best second-place team, it seems fairly certainly that the semis are already set. HOA, Minnesota, and Utah should all win their final pool games, if form holds out. Meanwhile, the second-place teams have all finished their games, with Wisconsin holding a points different lead over Texas and Colorado. However, if an 0-1 team were to win, things would be more complicated.
