Towson v Salisbury Heads DII Top 10 Games

The top ten Men’s DII college are, for the most part, active this weekend, with one very notable exception, and with playoff time here, two of the top ten are playing each other.

Towson University, ranked #4 by Goff Rugby Report, will face off with #7 Salisbury in the Potomac Rugby Conference final. Towson and Salisbury already played this season, with Towson coming away 32-21 winners. Led by flanker Nick Dipietro and Pat McKenna, Towson did a good job of mixing a solid forward effort with their pace out wide. They are experience and look to make it two out of two against their rivals.

But losing this game won’t be the end, as the #2 Potomac team has a shot at a play-in to the national playoffs.

Meanwhile #2 UW-Whitewater and #8 Illinois State will both be in the Wisconsin Illinois Intercollegiate League final four. Whitewater, which has pummeled all of their opponents this season, faces a UW-Lacrosse team they beat 107-0 earlier this fall. After beating DePaul 142-0 in the quarterfinals (that’s right, 142-0) they are averaging 97 points per game.

Illinois State (#8) has been impressive, but not quite as impressive as the Warhawks. But tellingly, ISU has not been scored upon this season. Not in league play, and not in the quarterfinals. Six games, zero points allowed.

Fairfield is #5 and they take on Vassar in the Tri-State final. See more here. Notre Dame College has also dominated in the MARC, and enter the playoffs this week against IUP. Player-coached Cortland (#10) finishes off their regular season, playing rivals SUNY Oswego.

JMU (#3) is idle as Madison has already clinched the Cardinals Conference. SLU (#9) finishes up their season but have already clinched. And Minnesota-Duluth, like Whitewater seemingly a galaxy apart from their competition, will wait three weeks for the playoffs to start, wishing they had someone to play.
